Masa Tayama

Masa Tayama commenced piano lessons at the age of five, and spent his
childhood in Enaland.
He studied at the Toho High School of Music and Toho University of Music
Soloist Diploma Course, Tokyo, Japan.
He went to London in 1995 and gained the Performer’s Diploma ‘With
Honours’ from
both the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music in London.
He was granted a Fellowship to study in the U.K. under the Japanese Government Overseas Study Programme for Artists in 2002.
In 1998 he was awarded a Special Prize from the Beethoven Piano Society
of Europe, in the London International Piano Competition.
The following year he won First Prize in the Brant Birmingham International
Piano Competition.
In November 2000, he performed the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 with
the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Heiichiro Ooyama to win
First Prize at the Takahiro Sonoda Award Piano Competition in Japan.
He has formed a Piano Duo with Albanian pianist Yllka Istrefi, with whom
he has won First Prize in the North London Duo Competition. Together they
have recently given a Duo Recital in Harrow, in aid of a Charity for Disabled
children.
Masa Tayama has appeared in numerous recitals, chamber music and concerto
performances in both Europe and Japan.
Lately, he has given a recital at the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Hall
in the U.K.,
and with the aid of the Japan Foundation, was the only pianist to give
a recital at the "Manolis Kalomiris Festival" in Samos Island,
Greece.
In May 2002, he made his London debut by giving a solo recital at the
Purcell Room, South Bank, London.
He gave a recital at the Toppan Hall, Tokyo in December 2002, endorsed
by Takahiro Sonoda.
He has performed Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 with the Crowndale
Orchestra in February 2000,
and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.4 with the Epsom Symphony Orchestra
in May 2001.
In May 2002, he performed Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 with the Sevenoaks
Symphony Orchestra in London, and in November performed Rachmaninoff's
Variation on a Theme of Paganini with the Guildford Symphony Orchestra.
In February 2003, he performed Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 under
the baton of Darrell Davison with the Croydon Symphony Orchestra at the
Fairfield Hall.
His other performances with Orchestra in 2003 include Brahms Piano Concerto
No. 1 in Cambridge and No. 2 in Epsom.
His latest orchestral apperances include Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto
No.3 with the Bacao Symphony Orchestra in Italy, in October 2004, and Brams
Piano Concerto No.1 with the Guildford Symphony Orchestra in April 2005.
